- Media Changer - Quick Start Instructions
- (Note some steps are only for Windows 95 users, and some
- steps are only for Windows NT users.)
-
- 1. Create a directory anywhere on your hard drive and copy
- MCHANGER.EXE and MCSETUP.EXE into it.
- 2. Run MCSETUP.EXE. Make sure each media type (Windows wallpaper,
- screen saver, system sounds) you would like Media Changer to
- alter is turned on via the checkboxes on the left side of the
- dialog. Now for each media type click the Browse button and
- find a directory that has some files in it you want to
- use (i.e. .BMP for wallpaper files, .SCR for screen savers,
- and .WAV for sound files) and choose one as your starting
- file. If you want Media Changer to randomly select a sound file
- from that directory each time it is run, turn on the Random
- checkbox next to that item. Otherwise Media Changer will
- just choose the next sequential file in that directory
- when you run MCHANGER.EXE.
- 3. In Windows95, if you are retrieving media files from a network
- drive, pick the Network button. You can now choose to have
- Media Changer make a local copy of the media files it is going
- to use on your system. For example, if you get your startup
- sound files off of the network, they won't play correctly since
- Windows plays the startup sound BEFORE it logs on to the
- network. If you turn on the Copy checkbox for the startup
- sound, Media Changer will make a copy of the startup sound
- file it selects and place it in the same directory as MCHANGER.EXE
- -- it names this file START.WAV. Click OK to close this dialog.
- (NOTE: In NT, Media Changer's current selected media files are
- always copied to the same directory as MCHANGER.EXE. The exception
- is the screen saver, which is copied to your System32 directory.)
- 4. Click Save to save your changes.
- 5. If you're using Windows NT, you need to do two more things:
- a. Open the Control Panel and bring up Desktop.
- Double-check that the wallpaper tiling mode is set how
- you want it. Next, single-click the Name box in the Screen
- Saver section. It will pop open and show all of your screen
- savers. Notice one of the names is repeated twice. Choose
- the first (top) of the two duplicate names. This is MCHANGER's
- copy of the screen saver it has currently selected. Each time
- you run MCHANGER.EXE, this will now automatically change to
- the screen saver Media Changer has selected for you.
- Click OK to save the settings.
- b. Open the Sound Control Panel item. Set each of the following
- sound items to the corresponding file in Media Changer's
- directory:
- System Asterisk: ASTERISK.WAV
- System Default: DEFAULT.WAV
- System Exclamation: EXCLAMAT.WAV
- System Exit: EXIT.WAV
- System Hand: HAND.WAV
- System Question: QUESTION.WAV
- System Start: START.WAV
- 6. Click Close to close MCSETUP. Place a shortcut or an icon for
- MCHANGER.EXE in your Startup folder or group. This way, each
- time you start Windows, Media Changer will change all of your
- media settings automatically!
